Dyno Results 8/02

Tested with Tube Header and T3/T4 turbo, stock MC Cam, 18psi boost pressure, 3" exhaust with cat, 8.4:1 compression, and 034EFI fuel system running 45lb injectors. Initial timing set at 20 degrees BTDC. Ambient was about 85F, small 2' fan, 4-wheel DynoJet.

Max Wheel Power: 229.2 @ 5300 RPM

Max Wheel Torque 252.6 @ 4200 RPM

This equates to about 280-300 flywheel hp and 315-330 ft/lbs torque depending on your correction figures. ATP speculated 300hp based on their experience with quattros in the past. In my experience a tuned CIS turbo car with a K24 or K26 running 15 psi make about 150 wheel hp (claimed 225hp flywheel), you make the correlation, but based on the results above, it brings to light some of the serious deficiencies in the CIS, stock exh. manifold, and KKK turbo choices.

Notes about the dyno runs:

- Dyno Run 002RO, the lowest power of the session at 192.5 had a very rich fuel setting, under WOT and boost the ratio went into the 10:1 range. By changing one setting in the 034EFI system from 8.6 to 8.0 (the injector offset) resulted in Run 002RO max power of 221.5, a 29HP increase with one twitch of the finger! Try doing that with a Bosch Motronic fuel system, imagine the price of overnight shipping to Luxemburg ;)

-Dyno Run 003RO was a little lean at about 13.5:1, so again Injector Offset (basically max injector duty cycle) was changed from 8.0 to 8.25 for a nice power increase to 222.9 and a flatter power and torque curve.

-Things were riched up even a little more for Run 005RO and a slight power decrease, but another fine tune adjustment and Run 006RO resulted in the highest run of 229.2 of the day. Looking at the fuel curves of Runs 005 and 006 shows a text book turbo fuel curve right in the 12.5:1 range, solid all the way to redline.

Observations:

-Note that max. power of about 229hp extends from 5300-to just over 6000 RPM, and torque stays above 200 ft/lbs from 3600 to 6400 RPM. Naturally, the car pulls like a mofo from about 4000-5500 RPM.

-The motor makes over 100 wheel hp at a mere 3300 rpm (that's more than a stock 4kq all together), makes 150hp at 3700 RPM (what a stock 1.8turbo is rated at flywheel). Was someone complaining about turbo lag? At max power the motor is making more power at the wheels than at stock UrS4 20v turbo made from the factory.

-A friends highly modded UrS4 made 275 wheel hp running 30psi, almost twice the boost this 10v-18psi motor is running, but made only 20% more power. Others have pointed out that it was a little on the low side and typical figures are at the 300 whp range.

Other 5 cylinder Dyno Plots:

-Tony Lum's 10-valve UrQuattro with K24 and CIS at 15psi made 152 wheel hp, download the PDF

-Mike Pederson's 2.2 highly modified 20v UrS4 at 3 different boost levels - See Jpeg
